Building a model railroad structure, week 2

ICYMI, you may want to read the first post in this series before reading this one. Right now we’re looking at what we accomplished this week; it won’t look like much, but painting tiny window frames is slow work.

Why Walthers didn’t make them white instead of tan in the first place I’ll never know. In any case, I couldn’t possibly be the one to do the fine-scale detail work that is required here!

While Meredith made progress on the house, I got started on streets and roads. I tried using commercial products for that purpose, but the simulated asphalt was always too black. (I had never noticed before that real streets are actually gray, not black! One of the side benefits of building a model railroad is that it makes one look at the real world more closely.) So the correct technique is to mix up a batch of Smooth-it combined with a tiny amount of black paint. Let’s see the results next week. As always, stay tuned,
