No, not the famous song from the ’70s! In this case I mean it literally: I have just completed going through cataract and glaucoma surgeries in both eyes (a month apart), and the world looks different.
Even though the surgeries are completed, I’m not actually done with the entire process yet. I still have another three or four weeks before I can see the optometrist and get a new prescription for eyeglasses. And then of course I have to use that prescription to get a new pair of glasses. At that point I’ll really be able to see clearly once again.
One interesting observation is that not only does the world look different, it also looks blue — as if I’m looking through a blue filter. The ophthalmologist explained that it’s because the cataracts were yellow; when they were removed, my brain interpreted the absence of yellow as blue. All that reminded me of one of the psych courses I took in colleges: Perception and Sensation or something like that.
I’m glad I didn’t look for images before going through the surgery, as Dr. Google now shows me pictures like this:
