Not the other Wes Moore

Here I sit, listening to a special guest on Pod Save America: Wes Moore. I am immediately taken back to a blog post of mine from 14 years ago. That post was about a book with which you may be familiar, The Other Wes Moore; go ahead and read the post (or re-read it) right now! As you know, this Wes Moore is currently the governor of Maryland, and his name has been mentioned (by the Great Mentioner, of course) as a possible Democratic presidential candidate in 2028. Moore says flatly and emphatically that he isn’t running.

But it’s early days yet.

I was not surprised that my immediate impression of Moore from the podcast was very favorable, as it was from the book. He would make a good candidate, especially against JD Vance, the most likely Republican candidate.

The problem, of course, is twofold. First, as you know, there is a deep divide between the progressives and the liberals in the Democratic Party. Maybe Moore could unite those two wings. Second, even the Democrats are scared of Trump, so no one is saying very much.

Personally, my current favorite (as it was in 2020) is Pete Buttigieg. But I would be more than happy with Moore, or basically anyone who could defeat Vance.
