According to Google AI, cioppino is “a hearty Italian-American seafood stew from San Francisco, made with a tomato and wine broth filled with a variety of fresh fish and shellfish like clams, mussels, shrimp, and crab, using whatever the “catch of the day” was. It originated with Italian immigrant fishermen in the late 1800s and is traditionally served with crusty sourdough bread for dipping.” And that‘s exactly what I had at Tavolo last night.
Also according to Google AI, buck-a-shuck “offers $1 oysters, a popular happy hour deal in Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts.” No Italian immigrant fishermen this time, but somebody had to bring in all those oysters. Barbara had 18 of them. That’s 18 too many from my POV 🙁. Barbara disagrees.
My cioppino was accompanied by the aforementioned crusty sourdough bread for dipping (two large grilled slices), and I also ordered one serving (just one, which still turned out to be far too much) of grilled mushrooms. Everything was delicious.
