A multilingual bookmark

I’ll have to give this as a puzzle to my incoming freshmen in September.

You know how libraries give out free bookmarks as a service to their customers? (I’m sure it’s mostly just a way to discourage evil practices like dog-earring.) Well, I just discovered this bookmark in one of my paperbacks that dates back to about 20 years ago, and I saw that it contains the word library in 20 different languages. (Hey, that’s one for each year!) The puzzle, of course, is to identify the languages — and no fair using Google Translate. If you give up, or you just want to check your guesses, you can find the answers here. (And the second puzzle is how there can be 20 different languages when only 18 seem to be listed. Hmm….)
