Anticipating today’s snowstorm, Barbara and I just had to treat ourselves to a take-out banquet from Tavolo last night. (We blame Tara for it, since she had posted a tempting menu excerpt on FB.)
Here’s what we had (pix below): a crispy margherita pizza with the clearest possible flavors (just mozzarella, basil, and San Marzano tomatoes); a root vegetable salad of roasted carrots, turnips, parsnips, focaccia croutons, baby kale, white balsamic vinaigrette, and toasted pine nuts; the fabled polenta alla Icarus with Maderia-braised mushrooms and parmesan; a welcome-to-winter roasted duck breast with carrot & balsamic puree, roasted potatoes, wilted baby kale, and cranberry glaze; a traditional shrimp scampi with fettucini, garlic butter, tomatoes, scallions, and lemon; a lamb ragu that warmed body and soul, accompanied by ricotta & spinach stuffed shells, shredded mozzarella, and lemon zest; and two slices of very rich flourless chocolate cake with mascarpone whipped cream.
There were leftovers.
Plenty of leftovers.
But you probably figured that out already.
