A very traditional Christmas dinner

In accordance with tradition, Barbara and I had our Christmas dinner yesterday at a Chinese restaurant: Chau Chow in Dorchester. It was more a feast than a dinner, leaving plenty of yummy leftovers.

Unfortunately they were sold out of roast pork buns by time we got there, so we only had a mere eight items. First course, so to speak, consisted of har gow, shumai, beef noodle, taro with shrimp stuffing, and stuffed eggplant.

“Not enough vegetables!” we hear you cry.

Indeed, so the second course was Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, shrimp nuggets in soya skin, and Szechuan string beans with jumbo shrimp.

Yes, a bit heavy on the shrimp, but who’s complaining?
