Romcoms have never held much appeal for me, not even when they were made in 1934 and were called screwball comedies, and not even when they starred Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
Nevertheless, I watched It Happened One Night, since it’s “widely hailed one of the greatest films ever made,” according to that ultimate authority on all matters, Wikipedia.
Well, at least it’s a classic. And I (somewhat) enjoyed it, classifying it as “okay.” I do admit that the acting was effective. And it was interesting to see a perspective from nearly a century ago. But…SPOILER ALERT…I didn’t like the portrayal of the bad guys, all of whom turned themselves around and became good guys in the end. That may work for cartoon characters—after all, even the grinch himself carved the roast beast—but it feels like a cop-out for real people.
Anyway, if this is the sort of thing you like, you will definitely like it. For me…meh.
