Good Lieutenant by E.J. Copperman

Good Lieutenant is the sixth, the best, the most serious, and (alas) the last novel in Jeff Cohen’s Jersey Girl series of mysteries. But — wait, wait! important question here, I hear you cry — you said Jeff Cohen but the book cover in the image says E.J. Copperman? Which is it? I am so confused!

Actually, it’s no mystery: E.J. Copperman is merely one of Jeff Cohen’s pseudonyms. Mystery solved.

That’s a relief.

If you prefer to read any series in order — as I usually do, although it’s not strictly necessary in this case — here is a chronological list of links to my reviews of the books in the series:

From the titles alone you can probably guess that these books are funny. That guess would be correct. However, I did say in my first sentence above that this one is the most serious of the entire series; there are plenty of flashes of humor throughout the novel, but the overall tone is believable and serious. Appropriately so, since the client here is that sort of person.

So why “Jersey Girl” as the overall series title, when one of the books mentions Santa Monica in its title? Last time I looked, Santa Monica isn’t in New Jersey. I guess you’ll just have to read at least the first two books to find out. But please don’t stop there! I promise that you will enjoy all six, even if you’re not from New Jersey.
