Excellent dinner on the patio at Tavolo last night, all supported by server extraordinaire Michaela Collins. Barbara started with an enormous Chef’s Burrata (burrata, mixed greens, candied walnuts, gala apples, vincotto, evoo) accompanied by a Summer Lemonade cocktail (it is still summer, isn’t it?): short path summer blueberry gin, lavender lemonade, lavender bitters. I started with frico (it was “Welcome back, frico” night): grana padano, baby arugula, pickled red onions, balsamic reduction, accompanied by a simple prosecco.
For the main event Barbara had Shrimp Scampi with fettucine, garlic butter, tomatoes, scallions, lemon. I had Seafood Fra Diavolo: mussels, calamari, shrimp, house linguine, spicy marinara. Followed by a doppio espresso, of course.
The portions were so generous and delicious that we had to take half of everything home for leftovers! To make up for this, we also took home a couple of desserts that we knew we loved from prior experience: lemon tarts and flourless chocolate cake.
