…we always want to return to our local favorite where everybody knows your name. In our case, that’s the Ashmont Grill, with excellent food, first-class service, and the feeling of being home.
So Barbara and I had our penultimate 2022 Ashmont Grill dinner last night. (The final one will be NYE.) For a starter we shared their always-amazing jumbo fried shrimp with spicy mango dip.
Then Barbara had one of the day’s specials: wood-grilled maple bbq steak tips with mashed potatoes—not too sweet despite the maple syrup in the sauce, and served medium rare as ordered despite the fact that the kitchen was swamped with a surprisingly large crowd for a Monday. (It was, of course, a holiday week, so maybe it was not surprising after all.)
And I couldn’t resist the wood-grilled hand-cut 12-ounce ribeye, served with
truffle butter, fried onion ring, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus, and served rare as ordered. (Study the photo: how delicious does that look!) I think next time I’ll ask them to skip the truffle butter. While it’s a lovely touch, I just don’t much like the flavor of truffles. But I should also point out that this was one first-class onion ring, as good as the ones they used to serve at the late lamented Donovan’s on Savin Hill this side of the bridge.
Great comfort food for this special week! And we got to chat with Mike, Chris, and Butterfly. (Tara was missing because she was making everyone else jealous of her vacationing in Aruba.)
